Deccan Herald ,a leading Indian English daily publishing from Bangalore ,has redesigned

before redesign

after redesign

sports page before redesign

sports page after redesign

Deccan Herald says:

As you will have already noticed, your favourite newspaper now has quite a different appearance.
We have again heralded a massive restructuring in our presentation of news, views and features. Every page has been designed keeping you, the reader, in mind. The architecture of each page is such that you will find it easier to read and navigate. You will find that all your regular features and trusted news and information are in their usual places.

The changes have been introduced across every section of the paper, including our hugely popular Metrolife and the equally popular supplements like Sunday Herald, Living, Spectrum, Education and Realty.

Renowned firm:For over six months we have worked with our design consultant Palmer Watson, an international design consultancy which has been responsible for creating the design of the world's most renewed newspapers, including Le Monde in France, and Spain’s El Pais. On several occasions, Palmer Watson's projects have been honoured by being named the World's Best Designed Newspaper by the respected Society of News Design.
The new masthead, designed by Palmer Watson, you must have noticed, exemplifies the can-do and youngish personality of the new DH. The promos - bolder and more colourful - are intended to hit eyeballs and kindle your interest.

Qualities::One of the main features of the new-look is the introduction of the latest high-quality typefaces, specially designed for use in newspapers. Perhaps, your newspaper is the first one anywhere in the world to feature the Clan typeface as its main display font.

The design also makes use of a text typeface called Expresso, which has been created in Portugal by Mario Feliciano, one of the world's first new type designers. Expresso has exceptional readability qualities, which should enhance your enjoyment of the newspaper.

At various stages during the redesign process, we sought the opinions of a wide spectrum of readers, taking into account their views on the key aspects of the design. While we have gone in for the facelift, we reaffirm our commitment that content is king.

We place readers above everything else. We invite you to write to us or send in your feedback to editordh@deccanherald.co.in

Hi tksajeev,
I'm a designer working for Deccan Herald, so whats your view on our Redesign
DH has become neat and readerfriendly. But it looks more like an US daily. That's not a sin.My major concern is the masthead in reverse. Is it ok in print?.( For example New Indian Express's mast head and promos on saturday and sunday is ok in pdf .But in print its not atall up to the mark in our area because of mediocre printing and bad quality of newsprint).

Major change is the masthead and promo-In every page there is a big photo for the entry - the page tittle is also changed. To me there ends the innovation. The big type for the story lead is very much old fashioned. And also DH's story presentation hasn't changed (Old wine in new bottle).Graphics is also missing.
